CAST workshops:
designing and evaluating road safety campaigns

30 May 2008, Warsaw, Poland
13 June 2008, Stockholm, Sweden

Road safety campaigns play a key role in the effort to improve traffic safety and are therefore an important road safety tool. It is a stated aim that the CAST project will encourage proper design and evaluation of road safety campaigns in all EU countries.

During the lifetime of CAST both a manual and an evaluation tool for campaigns will be developed and assessed by real campaigns. The project has start in 2006 and several research activities have been carried out since the launch.

These international workshops aim to discuss the first results and to collect new inputs from participants outside the consortium in order to improve the final result.

Issues that were addressed

  • CAST Project
  • Do road safety campaigns work?
  • How to design and implement a road safety campaign?
  • Measuring the effect of different types of campaigns
  • How to influence and change driver behaviour?

Who attended the workshop?

  • Campaign designers
  • Road safety campaign practitioners and experts
  • Researchers and evaluation experts inside and outside the field of road safety
  • Communication experts

During the parallel sessions we worked together to get input, share experiences, exchange knowledge, discover perceptions and express the needs.
